It's an example of the Luddite tendencies in those who live South of the Equator who don't believe anything of value comes from the North (it's either cold or polluted or is called Kim Il Jong) and who quite early on formed an association to counter the pervasive influence of Northern technology in the form of (for example) the iPod.
We saw it coming long before Steve Jobs did.
As all catchy names use some abbreviation we thought the founder's suggestion of "anti-iPod" as a bit clumsy to pronounce and so collectively we became known as the anti(i)pod-eans. Simple, really.
 
I guess the Northern Beaches where I live is sometimes considered part of Sydney by locals, at least whenever the draw bridge* is down (*named The Spit Bridge, possibly as a mark of respect). People here sometimes believe that the other side of the world is reached by crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. 🙂
 
Not Australian or Kiwi, but I hope that the Australian government will allow me to be an Australian citizen soon.

I have been to Australia twice, and read lots of books about it's history. It is one of the truly great countries/continents in the world. Astonishing natural beauty, a get up and go attitude without the inhumanity of other countries with that attribute. Australia represents a different quality of life to me, a place to find what we lack here in the UK, whatever that may be.

And on a very much less important note, it's a landscape photographer's paradise, you've got almost every type of nature available, except maybe arctic.

Was wondering who the other Tassie entry was 😀 Haven't lived there for a while now but my Mum and 2 brothers are still there. Haven't even visited since 2005 - really trying to get back later this year.

If you were born in Malaysia, its close enough that we've almost swapped places :bang:

Last I lived in Australia was 10 years in Sydney; left in 1998
 
Melbourne. It's autumn here and some days in a Melbourne autumn are so perfect that it is hard to believe there was ever a day like it. Except of course there was, if not last week then certainly last year. This leads to the ridiculous conceit that most Melburnians, patiently suffering the reputation of the city for cold windy weather, chiefly in July and August, will continually remark to each other on how extraordinary the weather is, right through from February to June. Melbourne's best kept secret, including from Melburnians.
