So I'd like to try an autofocus rangefinder but can't come up with the money for a Contax or Hexar. I was reading about the Minolta HiMatic AF2 last night. Has anyone had experience with this camera, kinda intrigued by the built in flash for some different kind of street shooting? Any other suggestions for an AF rangefinder?

I don't know if you'd consider this a rangefinder (to me, an autofocus rangefinder is well, an autofocus camera 🙂 ), but have you looked at the Yashica T3 or T4? the Tessar lens in those are amazingly sharp and contrasty.

Yeah, i guess it doesnt have to be a rangefinder. It's the autofocus I want to play with. I'll check these out.

This may sound naive, but I wan't aware there was such a thing as an 'autofocus' rangefinder. Somehow that sounds like a contradiction in terms. Why would a camera (or the photographer) need an RF if the camera is auto-focus?

See if you can find a Minolta Freedom Tele.
It has a 2.8 40 and a built in teleconverter so it's also a (slower) 80.
The flash zooms too when the tele button is pressed.
The only thing is- this applies to many things with flash built in, is the capacitors sometimes need to be re-formed. Just using it a bunch seems to heal the flash usually.
This camera was also sold by Leica as the Leica AF-C1
