Auto Shut OFF feature

I have my R-D1 since august now. Lately I missed several shots especially, when I tried to shoot one after the other, because I found the camera turned off.

Today I descovered the cause: when operating the "rewind"-lever rapidely, often the friction in will turn the ON/OFF swith in counter clockwise direction, which means it turns the camera OFF !!!!

Has anybody else observed this behavior on her/his R-D1 ??

I now found, that the problem gets more severe in the cold, I was shooting last sunday ar around -10 Deg Celsius for about 1,5 hours.
Then only the play of the revind lever if the shutter is cocked was enough to turn ON/OFF the camera !

I guess I will send the camera in for repair......

I've never seen this happen to my R-D1. Admittedly, I haven't been shooting in -10 C with it yet. I've also never heard of this problem before. I guess it's just your specimen that's gone haywire. Sad to see you have to send it off and miss it for some time.

I haven't heard of this problem before either. Certainly doesn't happen with mine which I've had since last March - just tested it - cocking and firing as quickly as I could. However, I see how it could happen if the on/off switch is loose. Sounds like a return to me. Good luck.
