Iron Tiger Year, I think, but I'm not sure. May have been Fire Tiger.

What's frightening is that in my 'teens I used to be regarded as quite a good astrologer, and for the many years she lived there, a very dear friend was regarded as one of the best astrologers in Glastonbury (where they tend to be really discriminating about these things).

After aiming off for Jungian synchronicity, the thing is, I know how it's done, and I can't help marvelling at the gullibility of those who place too much faith in it.

"Too much?" How can there be any? Well, at the very least, for some people, astrology is a self-fulfilling prophecy ("I'm Gemini, so I do Gemini things.") And if the 'astrologer' is any good, they can tell a lot about you (from pure observation) regardless of when you were actually born, and they can make it fit your star sign/Tibetan birth year/whatever in an astonishingly convincing fashion.

Of course, those who are resoundingly anti-astrology, and vehemently deny all of the above, are quite often even easier to see through, simply by steering a a course 180 degrees opposed to their flat statements.

Tashi delek,

Well, I'm a "cusp" sign. July 22nd, which is usually a Cancer. However, I was born in '85, so during which year Cancer ended on the 21st and Leo started on the 22nd. Thus I guess, TECHNICALLY, I'm a Leo.....

But I identify with the Cancer sign much more....

I do however think this stuff is nonsense. I rather study the physics of astronomy....

OK ... so explain the huge discrepancy between cancarians and librans? :D

By the Chinese horoscope, I'm the Dragon. The wife is the Dog. They say for the Dragon to avoid the Dog. They also say that for the Dog, the worst match would be the Dragon. We've been together 8 years now, and I'm sure we always will be.

Had I been born 5 hours earlier I would have been a Capricorn. Isn't there something special about the cusp? :)

Go Cancer, Go Cancer...goooooooooCAANNCCEERR! (Short cheerleader skirts flopping up and down, the mad rustle of PomPoms in the air, the receeding squeals of perfect white sneakers voiding teen energy on the gym floor).

Dumb poll...

Yes, it is. Sometimes averages can be useful. For instance, it can be useful to know the average test score for one's class. But it is not reasonable to average things that are discrete, unique, and not really representable with a number that reflects a measurable quantity. For instance, what if say we are going to average ham, roast beef, olive oil, and Spam. So we assign ham=1, roast beef=2, olive oil=3, and Spam=4. The average is 10/4, or 2.5.

So what? Sure, they are all food products, just as zodiac signs are all, well, zodiac signs. But as Maurice Chevalier said in Gigi: "So what, so what, so what?"

Maybe what was meant was, "What is the modal sign of RFF members?" Or, more likely, the modal sign of people who vote in polls. The mode means the most frequently occurring result. I don't know what use this information would be, but at least it would be statistically more defensible.

I move that from now on, all polls have to first be submitted to Raid to be inspected for appropriateness of methodology before they can be posted! Sorry, Raid!

In the spirit of shut-in wankery that seems to be on the rise (if these polls are any indication), here are some future subjects for people who never leave the house or actually use their cameras:

• What type of potato chip does a RFF member prefer?

Laura Scudders Potato Chips. "More big yummy chips, less little crummy chips." Unfortunately, they don't carry them in St. Louis. I remember getting them in Safeway in Nevada & Colorado. Fortunately, we do have Lay's here.

Interesting to note the Cancers and the Aquarians stay in the lead with 11+% each, well above any other. Can there be any significance to this?

Potato chips? Tim's Cascade... :)
