With the advent of the "new" flickr, I have started reflecting on a need for a B&W only film photography space on the web, that would PRIMARILY concentrate on displaying, sharing and commenting SELECTED images. I have started uploading my photos on flickr in 2007, and at the time, digital was already dominant, but not yet principally an extension of everybody's smartphone. It is clearly heading to cater for the average Joe: the flower embroidery on group headers, the wobbly slideshow and the excessive amount of photographs on each page are telltale signs. The percentage of quality new B&W film entries is quickly converging to zero. I desire to continue doing what I do: practice B&W film photography, possibly trying to improve the quality, not necessarily the quantity.
Hence, I feel a need for a space, where to share images with like minded B&W film enthusiasts. Perhaps a common B&W film only blog would be an ideal solution. The APUG space is filled with colour photographers, and to me, is not sufficiently focused on displaying the pictures - you cannot even see their galleries in full resolution, unless you subscribe...
Is there a way to organize such a thing without any commercial scope for free or for a flickr like fee according to you? The participating photographers would be free to show links to their commercial sites, if they have any and wish to do so, but the main point would be to showcase work in progress, comment on the approaches, ideas, technical processes. How many of you would be interested in such a space?
Thanks
Marek
