I’m sure some of you may remember me, possibly Roger Hicks or Back Alley, but it’s been a long time. I stopped by 2 weeks ago, but prior to that hadn’t been active since 2011. I started the Cats thread and some others back in the early 2000’s. My first wife of 38 years passed in 2012 of metastatic breast cancer. I then had bone cancer myself. Worked through that, remarried in 2016, and think it’s time to pick up my Rolleiflex and Leicas again. I was one of the first on the RD1 bandwagon before the first digital Leicas emerged. I still have it. Great paperweight! In any case I’m hoping I can rejoin this wonderful community again. If I’ve forgotten any old friends please forgive me! But I’m planning on returning!

Jeff, it sounds like you have been through a lot in the last ten years!
I joined in 2014, so I didn't know you, but I welcome you back!

PS. We lost Roger Hicks to death a year or so ago.

Good to have you back. I will look to post something to the Cats thread as a welcome.
Is you Epson a paperweight because it's not working (I had bad luck with mine). But there has been some RD1 activity here in the last little while, and I recently posted some RD1 pics from 2005(!) on my flickr.

Glad to say hi! I joined in 2011 after a few years of lurking.
Sadly, Roger passed away not too long ago, and his wife Frances shortly after. Tom Abrahamsson and a few others, unfortunately, too. But it's good to know you're alive and kicking!

Hey Jeff!! I remember you from earlier days here… v glad you’re back so welcome!!
Back Alley is still around though he’s no longer a mod. Alas, Roger Hicks passed away several years ago and is much missed.

Welcome back. As an old timer here, I do remember you. Glad you are well. Get out and shoot, it is great healing therapy for the soul. I oughta know as last year I had quadruple heart valve replacement surgery. Not fun, but getting out and shooting has been so much fun.

Welcome back, I remember you too. The cat thread is one of my favorites.
My kitty, Sneaky. I took him in a couple years ago after he came up to me in the middle of the night half-starved, covered in fleas, and infected with tapeworms. Now he acts like he owns the place, and thinks my son and I are his food-slaves.

Welcome back. You had a difficult time but now it's the moment to start again with your passions, your Rolleiflex and Leica will help you.

we all have a past and some of us keep finding it here...i long ago gave up the rd1 as i started to lean on the auto focus abilities of the new gear. but the rd1 is still a fond memory...i'm a fuji guy now.
some changes here at rff also...more digital chatter than rf chat but i think we have a pretty good balance...we still have some film shooters left. i come here everyday but i don't post nearly as much as i used to...it's become a calmer place since i stepped down as a mod, hhmmm...
so welcome back, sorry to hear of all you have endured in the meantime.

Good to have you back Jeff. RFF is a bit of an outlier community on the internet, and certainly one of the best. Can't wait to see some shots from that Rollei!

As a newer member, I very much appreciate all of you who have many years of experience with rangefinders as a resource in my journey! The RF landscape has certainly struggled a bit since digital largely left RF technology behind (possibly to its detriment) but who knows, maybe that will change eventually and rangefinders will return from - not the grave, but the cell where Leica has been keeping them (poshly maintained, it must be said) from reaching the masses.

Hey Jeff, I think I remember you.
I have some rare disease that could be described as a low level Cancer call Cold Aglutinin Disease. CAD is considered a rare disease and for some unknown reason (Idiopathic). I have high IgM antibodies and these high levels would suggest someone very sick.
My only symptom is that my blood thickens in extreme cold, and this can restrict blood flow.
So for 15 or so years, no better or worse, and it seems like a non issue, meanwhile it seems my expected life expectancy is projected to be 111 years because of my lifestyle (lazy-slacker), my diet, and my BMI (skinny-bitch).
In about 5 years I will be retiring (don't tell my boss), and I'll be 64.
Three good things happened with Covid: I lost over 20 pounds; I bought a house; and I will retire early because they stopped adding onto my pension.
I'm recreating myself, use to live in Madhattan, but I escaped into the burbs, now I consider myself a hill-billy as a new identity.
Know that in my past I was a creature of the theater and a drama queen and a performance artist. Calzone is a persona here on RFF.
Cal AKA Augie and Calvin-August my hill-billy names.

Welcome back, Jeff. I think you're one of the first people I remember wondering where they got off to. Hope to see you around more often.

Welcome back, I also remember you, became a member here in late 2006. My first rangefinder was an Epson R-D1s.
