Back in D-76

It has been a little over five years now since my daughter was born. When she was born I did away with all my chemicals..... Yesterday, I mixed fresh gallons of everything.....

My wife bought me a neg./slide scanner for my birthday Saturday it will be here today..... I don't have my enlargers and paper stuff out yet, but I hopefully will soon... I miss darkroom time... (not much time period, anymore)

I a little out of practice. i had to pull my old books out and start reading up on it again.. We shall see. Wish me luck.

I sarted my darkroom work 32 years ago when my oldest daughter was born. The last time it was used was about 10 years ago (by my daughter & a friend).

Now with 2 grandsons (22 months & 1 month) it's time to "excavate the equipment" and pass some of these pleasures on to the next generation of potential RF users.

Kid and grandkids seem to stir up the bug. I had been out of photography for 20 years. Then about 5 years ago one of our daughters decided to get married on Maui. Rather than pay big bucks to a photographer over ther I picked up a Nikon FM and FE online, as well as some lenses and shot the photos myself (They turned out great). Then I got interested in the old Soviet equipment. Then a granddaughter came along and a Nikon F100 seemed to be a better way to keep her in focus. Then I sorta misssed my old Mamiya tlr and found a great deal on one. Of course there was a changing bag for loading black and white film in the developing tanks -- then a scanner so I could just have color negs developed at a lab and make prints myself......and 50 cameras later the saga continues.

Although I've enjoyed getting back to developing my own film. I have mixed emotions about setting up the enlarger again. I have a nice Durst model with Nikkor and Rodagon lenses for 35mm and 6x6 but I don't have a convenient place to set up a temp darkroom and now that I've been using Photoshop for a few years I have less inclination than ever to set up that side of things.

I'll continue to develop film but I'd rather scan and photoshop the results -- sending out (uploading actually) to a lab for prints. If I come up with a 'lifer' of a shot (hasn't happened yet) I'll get a pro lab to print it in their darkroom or rent darkroom time from them.

My compromise ...

I'd like to get back into the darkroom, but for B&W printing only. My color darkroom experience years ago was brief but frustrating, so I think an all-digital color workflow will work better for me.
