back to my roots

Wow -- I share the others' sentiments. Glad to know things are on the mend, and I hope you share your pictures with us when you're ready.

Gatehead -- seems to me that's the hometown of Brendan Foster, right? I know I'm dating myself some, but I've always followed "athletics, " as you folks over there call track and field.
Brendan foster used to run past my house every evening on his practice runs building up to the olympics, always waved as he went past, happy times, gateshead is also home to the worlds largest half marathon

Brendan Foster was from Hebburn, a bit downstream. Steve Cram was from Gateshead, mind.

Gateshead is where the inventor of the lightbulb came from as well. A great many distinguished residents over the years.

Good old Mr Swan, one of Gateshead's famous sons:)

How did I miss this? Mike, I'm glad you survived that accident, and that all is well. Revisiting places from the past is a wonderful photographic project, and I trust it will bring you all the tonic you would want.

I never had a Rollei, but I have my Dad's Pentax ME, which is like the kid predecessor to the LX. I've been playing with it today and marveling at how small and light it is, and 'full frame', to boot. Enjoy your life!

Glad you are back up and running. These things make you realize you need to do what you need to do NOW. As to the camera choice, Pentax lenses are great for portraiture, but for trekking, I'd simply go with a Leica or two.
