Back-up battery

What do you think about this extract from the M8 instruction manual?
“capacity of the back-up battery is recovered after about 60 hours”



The replaceable battery provides power to a backup battery which is built into the camera. This backup battery maintains the reference data such as the date for up to 3 months. If this back-up battery becomes discharged it must be recharged by inserting the replaceable main battery. Once the replaceable battery has been inserted, the full capacity of the back-up battery is recovered after about 60 hours. This process does not require that the camera be switched on.

So, if the main battery is completey discharged the battery that maintains the date will last three months until it too is completely discharged.

I suppose if you spend this much money on a digital camera you'd better use it and not leave it in a glass case for many months.

I'm no expert on digital cameras, but this makes sense from an electronics point-of-view. I doubt that any other digicam has significantly different functionality. IMO, it doesn't sound like a big deal at all.

I think it is pretty sensible, as it stops the camera from losing its memory in the middle of the Sahara without a 2015 battery within 2000 km's...

OH MY GOD! A Leica that can not sit in Glass case for more then 3 months.😱 Solms has done it this time, they'll never recover after this!😉 Somebody inform LHSA via telegram.:angel: 😀

This is typical of most digital cameras. If not so every time you removed the battery to charge it, you would loose all of your settings. Leica does a poor job in this battery's description but it is common.
