Brian, if you're interested in trading a rare collector 😉 9 element, non coated, non AI version for one of your 11 element versions, let me know...

I use the 9-element 43~86 F3.5 Zoom-Nikkor-C, which is multicoated. I also have two of the later 11-element 43~86 F3.5 AI lenses. The latter version of the lens is much sharper. The early lens is quite good stopped down a bit, to F5.6. I've never used them with hoods. The 11-element AI lenses are going cheap these days, mine was $50. It's worth considering as it is AI and multicoated.

And with the 11-element lens. I bought this lens in 1978 with my then new F2a. I bought a second one at a camera show for $50. You cannot tell the two apart.. The second one "now" has close to perfect glass.

zoomed in, and ~F4. Slow film toward late day.

RFF's extra-compression on jpeg kills resolution, but these should give some idea. The newer lens is sharper across the zoom range, and at wider apertures. It is a bigger lens.

Wow Brian, the 11 element version, with the coatings is impressive, plus the convenience of AI. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those!
