Long story short - many years ago I really wanted a Leica M but "settled" for the Hexar AF because of cost, always feeling inadequate because it wasn't an M. I sold the Hexar and went through a CL (at least it was a Leica), then M4-P, M2, now M6.
Years later, although I loved the M's, I realized I really missed the convenience, fast shooting, and lens from the Hexar AF. So, I recently picked up a mint condition Hexar Rhodium from the RFF classifieds. It had the shutter release problem common with the Hexars so I did the fix found on the internet even though I'd never worked on cameras before and now things are working well. It wasn't too hard although I did have to go back in a few times before the fix would take. I'm really appreciating this camera for what it is this second time around. It is not a "poor man's Leica".
So now, I'm declaring that I'm done with GAS (famous last words) - I'm happy with my kit of M6/50mm and Hexar AF/35mm. That's it. This is all/more than I need. No more film gear.
My first pics with the "new" camera.
