bad focus selector knob placement

well, i bought the X Pro 1 last week. i'm reasonably good with it. i got it with the 35 1.4 and ordered the fuji M adapter which will be here wednesday... country victoria (australia).

now, i shoot for money, it is my living. on the weekend i shot a promo for a band with the D800 but i took the XP1 as a novelty backup and decided to shoot a set with it. well, it isn't made for the kind of fast shooting pros do in the field. the camera was in my hand, then on the bench, then back up again, slung over my shoulder, then back into my hands again, as you do when you shoot with two guns. in the interim i managed to accidentally hit the Focus Selector and sent it over to M from the orig S setting... you don't feel these things when you shoot fast. so some twenty frames are out of focus. the Selector is SO soft. should be a hard click.

so, i can't tell if the picture upload worked here but you can see (?) a strip of good old gaffer tape over the selector because for now, i will keep it on S until the adapter gets here for the leica glass. then i can worry about where the selector sits with which set of lenses.

otherwise i like the camera. the Q selector under the right thumb gets hit a lot, too. might tape half a drinking straw over it. gotta love gaffer tape.

I have never had the focus selector problem... But I have ad the q switch problem. I think that maybe one of the reasons soe people are using thumbs up on the camera (as well as normal reason).

If I remember correctly, in ovf mode green confirmation box never turns green in manual mode.

Xp1 will never be able to focus as fast as the dslr...

It's not a reason to avoid the camera but for fingers like mine that is a vulnerable spot. I just see it as funny, if not ironic, that ... All up, nearly three grand later I have gaffer tape on the body...! It's all good, though. Not a bad little camera but as I say, I'm not sure it's a pro gun.

Not had either of these problems, only managed to move the exposure comp dial accidentally.
A way around the Q incident is to try a thumb rest such as the ones from Match. ( http://www.matchtechnical.com/Pages/ThumbsUpEP7S.aspx ).
The other might be harder to work around but I can only think the leather camera case might help. If you used the bottom half of it it would add some protection from knocks and should make it less easy for the mode dial being accidentally moved.

I have the focus selector problem with my Nikon gear... no problems with the X-Pro.... so far.......

Well, the M Adapter arrives tomorrow so the gaffer tape goes, I guess unless I have to keep it on M all the time. It'll take time to get used to where my hands go, of course. Still an OK camera. Tomorrow will tell more...
