Hi guys, I need your input here!

I'm scanning some Velvia 100 slides with my Plustek Opticfilm 8100 and the results are...... well let's say just not so nice!

I tried Silverfast 8 that came with the scanner and VueScan (all latest versions) on my Mac and here are the results (OK, very low resolution scans, but the same color problems with all resolutions) which have a VERY strong red color cast (see pics 1 for Vuescan and 2 for Silverfast 8). I left both softwares pretty much at their basic settings!

The same happened with my former Epson V600, but as soon as I opened the files in Color Efex Pro 4.0, the cast disappeared (see pic 3 for Color Efex)!

Guess I'm stupid and doing something stupid as always, just don't know what?????

By the way, the Epson Scan software that came with the V600 had results with good color (but lacking otherwise)

Thanks for your help!

OK I have no experience with Silverfast but with Vuescan I'd suggest to set it up so that it doesn't save after a scan, set the color balance to Neutral, preview then scan, then with the final image on screen tick the Pixel Colors box (Color tab) bring up the B/W graph and adjust the rightmost arrow (White Point %) until the highlights are to your liking, then adjust the Brightness to your liking.

With Pixel Colors checked you'll likely see a lot of Out Of Gamut or Clipped Black. For Out of Gamut you can choose a different color space. For clipped blacks about the only thing to do is rescan locking the Exposure (Input Tab) adjusting the RGB Exposure above what Vuescan wants to put it at. If it starts at 1 then click Scanner> Exposure and it should calculate a value based on the preview (or scan if it's already done).

At least that's part of what I do. I also wouldn't be surprised to hear that you can do all of those things in Silverfast, I just don't have any experience.

Almost all of my color scans need some sort of correction right out of the scanner software. I typically open in photoshop and do RGB levels adjustments, and then tweak the curves if necessary. Save as TIF, then import into my Lightroom collection.
