Baking a RD-1

I need to carry a camera in my vehicle - this means it will get baked in the summer.
Q: Has anyone subjected a RD-1 to this kind of abuse for a summer ? What were the results?

Can't for life of me remember where, but read somewhere, sometime, that the R-D1 did not like the heat very much. Have never had the opportunity to find out myself, its autumn here and had the camera a couple of weeks only.

EDIT: My D2X stopped working this summer, however. One summer afternoon, 30 degr C, outdoors, laying in the sun for maybe 10 minutes. Did not like it all. Metering, AE, and AF stopped working, though it did take pictures (of a sort). When cooled down worked a treat. Would have thought it was less succeptible to failure than the R-D1, but I'll have to wait until summer to find out.

Heat can damage your lens elements no matter what brand of camera you are using. High temperatures can lead to separation of the glass which is costly to repair.

Secondly, the owner's manual of my Konica-Minolta A2 stated that the camera would not operate at temperatures above 102 degrees F. While shooting a wedding on a warm day (95 or so outside) my camera stopped. Given that the camera has a black body, on a sunny day the internal temperature of the camera easily topped the 102 mark. The temperatrue seemed to affect the battery not the internal workings of the camera. I kept swapping batteries in order to keep shooting. As long as I had a cool battery, it kept on working.

Given the cost of these cameras and the lenses, no matter whose you are using, I would advise keeping the camera close to me when I traveled and not leaving it in the car at all.

Epson used to make a lovely leather case, which can be picked up occassionaly for around $140.00 with a neck strap !

Cheep insurance if you ask me.

keep it inside a beer cooler.
as long as someone does not decide to steal your beer
you should be fine.

Besides the thermal properties of the "cooler" being an advantage in a warm car, the anti-theft properties alone make it a smart storage case.
(great suggestions from everyone, I'm glad I came upon this thread).
