I just bought a Texas Leica.
(The fujica gw690ii edition.)

You guys better tell me it's a great shooter!:)
Did i overpay with 375 GBP?

It comes from the UK. Now i am thinking, maybe i can persuade the seller to send along some film i could buy from 7 day shop. In the value of about 100 pounds. I'd buy the film and get it delivered to him, and he'd send it to me.

Do you think it would be a safe deal?

Hmmm,
He'll have your money, a nice camera, and lots of film to use...if I were doing a similar deal with you I would not hesitate but we have at least a small shared history. If it were some one I didn't know I might pause and consider; do I have good contact info--address, home and work phone numbers, has there been good communication so far, etc.
Can't really answer about the other questons: never owned one price seems decent, though.
Good luck!
Rob

What film are you after? 7dayshop isn't the cheapest for some brands, and if you spend £100 you can order directly from Silverprint whose service is likely better. Retrophotographic will also post to you I think.

It seems to me that you'd be asking a lot of the seller and by using 7dayshop (who have a poor record for customer service by all accounts) you add an extra layer of risk to the transaction.

It is difficult to answer your questions. Condition determines whether it will be a good shooter or not... and if 375 GBP is a good deal or not. How much did you pay for the Pounds? If I were paying 376 GBP it would be a rather expensive camera at today's exchange rate. Similar answer re: the film - how safe it is depends on the character and moral fiber of the seller.

yes. i sent a mail to the seller (not mentioning the film idea yet), i'm waiting for some reaction. If he seems to be ok to communicate with, i will consider it.

As long as i have the film sent to him from the shop, i do have his address :) But i have his address in Jersey already.

I need some slide film, namely i want a bunch of kodak e100gx (about 20 rolls) and kodachrome with included development, some 10 rolls, too. I will check oout the shops you mentioned - but,at least compared to the dutch online cheapest retailers, on the e100gx i save 2 to 4 euro per roll. The 35mm e100gx goes for 8 euro over here - at 7dayshop is about 3,70 gbp which is something below 5 euro per roll.

The 375 gbp means about 480 euro nowadays.Including insured shipping it will be still below 500. And,i always wanted to try these monsters...

thanks for the replies

Pherdinand: I have a GW690III - same lens - and it is a great shooter. The Fujinon lenses are quite good. You paid an average price (Don Colucci lists a range of $600-$800 on his site) unless the counter is at some ungodly high number. Remember the counter reads 10 frames per digit, so if you got one that reads under 10, say, it is essentially new. There is not much that can go wrong with these, but I have read somewhere that the leaf shutter should be serviced every so many thousand acutations - Dante Stella suggests maybe after 10,000 according to Fuji Canada.

the counter is at 095, rather low i think (100 rolls is not so much), but as a understand it is not too difficult to tamper with the counter - it is made for self-reminding, not for proof of low "mileage"...
but it also looks good on the images, and said to be without any serious marks or any faults. Thanks for the details!

In the meantime i communicated with him, seems to be a good guy but did not go for the film-shipping idea, saying he packed it already + wont' be at home in the next week...well, whatever, nice try.
Why o why does 7dayshop not ship to the mainland. :(

Checked Silverprint and Retrophotographic; the former sells the same film at 1 gbp higher, the latter does not have it. None of them have Kodachrome.

7dayshop can be cheap for some things. But they take a while to deliver [hence the name]. Mathers of Lancashire are often as cheap for many films and delivery is usually next day. It depends on the film.

I end up buying from retrophotographic, Mathers and 7dayshop depending who has what cheapest.

So... Anybody knows who delivers Kodachrome for a price of 8 euro-ish, or 6 gbpound-ish, including processing of course?
Thanks for the new tips, i will check out lancashire.
