Hi

I'm spending 3 days in Barcelona, from Sunday. Does anyone have any 'must see' suggestions for photography? I realise that there is a huge amount to see and do in 3 days but any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm taking my Hasselblad SWC, M4 with 35mm Summaron and 50mm 'cron and Ricoh GR Digital, so I should have most things covered.

Any local knowledge for good camera stores, restaurants and bars would also be very welcome.

Thanks
Ernst

Ernst,

La Rambla is the obvious place to walk. Although, as a local paper
said the other day, 80% of the people walking there are tourists,
and so they are the attractions you will find there. However,
the narrow streets around are very interesting, and you
cannot miss La Boqueria market. Just wander around.
Be careful, tourists means pickpockets!

Another area that you can reach easily walking from La Rambla
is El Borne, also packed with tourists, but Santa Maria del Mar
gothic church is well worth the visit.

Another quite fancy area is Gracia, with its squares full of terraces
and people. Plenty of restaurants there.

Camera stores. There are mainly two, CasanovaFoto and Arpi.
Both have websites, so you will be able to locate them easily.
Both are pricey, but the people there is kind and helpful.
Casanova has a section called 'Colecion' (Collection) which
is well worth a visit. The owner has a truly impresive collection
of screwmount leicas and rolleiflexes...

Have a good time in Barcelona.

Pau put it in a nutshell... however, let me add something:

In the Barri Gotic or Gothic Quarter, there are some beautiful pockets like Plaza del Pi and Carrer Llibreterias. These ones, along with Placa Generalitat, offer some nice views. The best you can do is get yourself lost in the maze of the Gothic quarter.

Also, if you have time, walk up to the Placa Catalunya, right at the top of Las Ramblas. Nice place to see people coming in and out of the metro station.

Gracia is an enjoyable neighborhood (I lived there for a while), and I would even tell you to go to the Plaza del Sol and Plaza de Rius y Tauler (near Gracia), but it's going to be too much.

Oh, while in BCN, don't forget to stop at the Meson del Cafe. I think it's on Llibreteria. The very BEST coffee cup (espressos are great) in BCN... although one would be really hard pressed to find a BAD coffee in Spain.

If you want ideas, check my gallery in Barcelona. The windows in the Barri Gotic are a photographic project on their own! 🙂 Enjoy your stay!

I wish... 🙄

Barcelona is a beautiful place for photography, I visited there over the summer (Flickr set with photos from another trip to Grenoble here). The best I can suggest are:
- The harbour is beautiful, especially in the evening as everyone comes down for a walk
- El Born and the Barri Gotic are great to wander around and snap some classic B&W shots
- If you can spare a day, take a trip out to the monastery at Montserrat. If you enjoy landscape photography, you won't be disappointed, it's a stunning location.
- Of course La Boqueria market is very photogenic.
- And a personal favourite, some of the churches (especially Santa Maria del Mar) are lovely

I took my Olympus 35RC and it was perfect. Take something small like a Leica and you should enjoy it a lot.
