Frankly, I am just using this sighting to create a tribute thread.
This gives me an excuse to go a little off topic, but honest,
it won't hurt.

Only days ago the great jazz singer ANITA O'DAY passed away.
At approximately 1 minute 23 seconds into this performance
(Newport '58) you'll see a lady step up with a Barnack & winder
(I think.)

While you are on that page scroll down a bit and
click on her performance of "Sweet Georgia Brown"
and, if you're a jazz fan, experience bliss.

I have the whole documentary on DVD, it's called "Jazz on a Summer's Day" and it's fascinating. This was the 1958 Newport Jazz Festval. It was also a technological breakthough in film making of sorts -- it's an early color documentary with sync sound shot on location in 1958 -- this was really cutting edge film independent film making for the time.

Among the other performers in this documentary are a young Chuck Berry (playing "Sweet Little 16") at the begining of his career -- (pretty radical for 1958), and Louie Armstrong performing with Jack Teagarden, in the twilight of their careers.

oops, something else I just remembered from the interview. "O'Day" isn't her real name. She adopted it because it was pig latin for "dough," which she planned to one day have a lot of. 🙂

I will therefore be changing my name to Steve O'Nay Dough. 🙂
