Batteries for Lynx 14E

This topic has been discussed before, and some people favor one option over the other in some old threads online.

Currently, what would you do if you were a user of a Lynx14E?

Use PX640A? 1.5V in place of 1.35V?
Use an adapter (on ebay for $7 or so) to adjust the voltage?

The best way to keep the small batteries in place is which?

Meter in mine doesn't work, so I just wing it, Raid. But what I did do before finding that out, was to use a battery of the proper voltage, and place a coil spring in the chamber to take up the slack. I don't remember what cell I used, but it did power up the circuit, as one indicator would light, but not the other.

I could use small batteries and add some aluminum foil to fill the battery chamber. Or I use an external meter.

When I had my Lynx 14 CLA'd the meter was altered to accept the 1.5 volt batteries. It was checked against a spot meter to be accurate within 1/2 a stop.

I need to use this camera more often, but the RF patch is very dim and I have a hard time to focus it.

I bought a couple of adaptors from a guy who was selling on eBay. When I got them they turned out to be the base of a .410 shotgun shell, with the shell casing (plastic) cut down to just within 1/8 inch of the copper base. A px28 battery just fit in the casing. There was a loose rivet peened over in the primer hole, and a spring providing tension on the rivet holding it against the battery. It hit the contact in the camera where it came through the primer hole. Worked like a charm.

I emailed him and said..."Hey, these look an awful lot like the base of a .410 shotgun shell?". He responded.... "YEP... pretty crafty huh?" I think the rim around the base was ground or filed down, but it was a perfect fit... in the camera, and for the battery.

I think the adaptors I got were for the G series camera's

It looks like the lynx used 2 1.35 mercuries, so now the workaround is to use the PX640A (2) which come to 3 volts.

I also checked the Yashica-guy.com site. He has a lot of info on these camera's, and I thought he sold adaptors.

My best workaround for mercury 1.35 are MRB625 Wein Cells, which have a flat discharge curve but a shorter life span than the old mercury batteries. Then I also use the hearing aid 675 zinc airs, which are 1.4 volts with a wire ring or a plastic tube around them to make them fit. They are very inexpensive.
