Has anyone any general advice about the topic?

Are there any 3rd party batteries and charger that people can recommend?

Or should I 'fork out' for the Ricoh stuff?

There are 4 batteries and a charger on Amazon for £14 (btbai) but they seem to be DB-60, and they have no reviews....

I looked into the area of 3rd party batteries recently for my GXR, and concluded I would probably feel happiest/ safest opting for batteries by a reputed 3rd party battery company like Energiser/ Hahnel, etc. rather than take the risk with very cheap batteries that may have cut safety corners.

The Ricoh batteries seemed very highly priced, especially given they were simply rebranding them, as opposed to manufacturing them themselves.

I've bought third-party batteries from Amazon and have used them without difficulty.

The specific ones I've got came from Amazon.de - digibuddy replacement battery for Panasonic CGA-S005, at €5.95 per. They're 1250 mAh, and although I haven't tested if they actually last longer than the OEM Ricoh battery I feel like they get comparable performance.

The important thing to note is that the Ricoh batteries have two deep-cut corners on the side of the electric contacts, and some replacement batteries aren't cut so deep and therefore won't fit. (For example, this one won't fit.)

Thanks. I didn't know Duracell, Energizer etc did camera batteries.

I was kinda surprised too. I'm not sure what brands offer which type of batteries, but in the case of the GXR, Energiser offered one. I think the beauty of the batteries Ricoh and Fuji have chosen, is that they are commonly used battery types used in several different types of cameras, so you have options. For example, the GXR battery is the same type as goes in the Fuji X100. I'm not sure what the state of play is with the GR itself.

Bear in mind though that the better brand 3rd party batteries are not inexpensive, and seem to reside somewhere in prices between the super cheap offerings, and the original OEM batteries themselves. Good luck with your search, and do report back :)

I bought two "Duracell Replacement Digital Camera Battery For Panasonic CGR-S005" - DR9709 from Amazon.co.uk - they fit and seem to work OK. £7.99 each.

There was a review that said they worked, but it seems there are two versions of the battery, one with the correct notches, one without. I suppose the newer batteries have the correct notches. Duracell direct specifically says the same battery does not fit the GR. Others said the same.

I would assume when the battery is in stock again it will be the newer version with the correct notches. The product name and number etc seems to be the same.
