Battery doesn’t fit Fuji-X camera compartment

It looks the same as other batteries I have, I don’t see the slightest difference. However, it should be a tiny more enlarged somewhere. I can insert the battery, it touches a bit the wall of the compartment. But to take it out is difficult, I have to use tweezers and I don’t like the idea of doing this.

It is a Watson battery for my Fuji X-T3. I am not sure if the battery changed its size, or I had never used it and it is a manufacturing defect.

Can I do something to reduce the size of this battery (if it is enlarged, it is just a fraction of millimeter)?

Some batteries can swell if they get too hot. It could be defective, I would be inclined to set it aside and use a different one.

Unrelated to your Fuji problem. But still a battery size problem. Everyready AA batteries don't fit in my Nikon F36 motor drive. They are too big in diameter.

I seem to recall having read that lithium batteries swell before they explode. Probably better replace that one.

I had a battery (I think it was a Watson, come to think of it) swell after charging and had trouble getting it back into the battery compartment of my EM5. Good idea to get a new one.

Just found the same with a battery for my DP3M, had to prise it out with a pen-knife . It'll go to battery recycling. So yes some of these lithium batteries swell, it means they are on the way out, and apparently some explode.

This is an older battery, right? If it's new, return it. It's defective. If it's an older battery, get rid of it. Recycle or trash it. Once a battery begins to swell, it's going bad.

I'd be leery of aftermarket third-party batteries. When I bought my Sony a7, it came with the OEM battery and a Watson. The Watson wouldn't take a full charge, discharged very rapidly, and tended to get very warm. That experience was enough to convince me to spend a bit more and only use Sony's batteries. The Watson got tossed in the recycling bin.

I think I will have to replace it.

I compared the battery to others I have, all on a flat surface, and it is a tiny bit swollen at the center on one side.

I bought the battery one year and a half ago. So, it is quite new. I don’t know how much I used it, if I ever used it, but definitely not too much. I think the battery got swollen after charging it (could I have “overcharged” it?)

I think it would be a good idea to label the batteries with numbers.

The cost of an external charger pales in comparison to the cost of a ruined camera.

Rechargeable AA size batteries are very slightly fatter that their 'normal' cousins. This can become a problem when used in multiples, for example power packs.

I've used aftermarket batteries in many cameras and all worked fine except for aftermarket batteries for the A7 series. I tried several brands and none would fully charge on the Sony charger and they all discharged quickly.

I started worrying about this when I had to screw a self tapper into the battery's end and then crowbar it out...

NOT recommended for a lot of reasons.

Nowadays, every now and then, I go round checking them all for batteries and firing the shutters, if needed.

I've used Fujifilm X series cameras since 2011. For several yearsI used an X-T1 2-7 times a week for commercial, interiors photography. This required a high number of charge cycles.

I had issues - including swelling - with about half of the non-OEM batteries I tried. I never a problem of any sort with Fujifilm OEM batteries.
