Does anyone know the usual cause of excessive battery drain on the G1? When I put new batteries in and touch the battery compartment cover to the base I get an "electrical" sound, even though the camera is turned off. The batteries are completely dead after about 24 hours. I have resorted to removing one battery each time I stop taking pictures. BTW the camera has only recently been put back in service after a couple of "digital" years. Any advice would be very welcome, as I can't afford many more new batteries, and I am really enjoying using this camera again. Roger

Is there any indication that the camera is "on", even with the switch off (does it focus?)

There are two pads under the cover (at least on the G1) that if shorted, keep the camera on, regardless of the switch position. This is done to allow the tech (via a solder bridge) to keep the camera on even if the top is removed during repairs.

Thanks for your reply. When switched off nothing works, except the number of shots stays on. However, when I take out one of the batteries and then replace it, as soon as the battery cover touches the camera base there is a sound as if something has moved inside the camera. Mystery. Roger
