Hello everyone, I just acquired a GIII-QL17 , and tried to use the Criscam (to adjust the voltage to 1.33V) adapter with SR44, but the test light does not come on. When I used the SR44 alone (with al foil), the test light came on , is that means the camera has been modified to use 1.55V SR44? (same thing happened to my Oly 35SPn, but using with Criscam adapter did gave a proper exposed outcome). Anyone has similar issue?

I myself have not used the Criscam adapter as I just use a 675 zinc-air hearing aid battery w/ a #9 o-ring. From what I've read, the diode on the adapter won't pass enough voltage to make the battery test light operate, but it will allow the meter to operate.

On the 'Mercury-Oxyde Battery Problem' page you will find a PDF document written by Frans de Gruijter (NL) which explanins in detail a DIY battery adapter for the Canonets. Frans de Gruijter also sells this DIY kits AND also ready-made adapters. The prices are very reasonable, the ready-made adapters costs $18 (or €15) including worldwide-shipping! You are given even a 5-year warranty on construction faults AND the battery test is working on the Canonets!

I agree with "femto". Recently purchased a DIY kit from Frans de Gruijter which is working pretty fine on my GIII QL17. However, the battery test does not work. I will need to re-read again the PDF document mentioned above, because I thought with the battery adapter the batt test was always missing (due to the diode not passing enough voltage to the light).

There are several threads here at RFF regarding this issue (battery for GIII QL17), so I recommend to perform a search and "ilustrate" yourself).

Kind regards,

Jose

I bought a ready-made battery adapter from Frans and with his adapter the battery check is working fine!

I remember a statement somewhere that Frans used a special diode to allow more current for the battery check light.

The same thing happened to me, and I also posted on this about two months ago. I found an old post by GMan, which explained it well. Apparently the difference between voltage and wattage is the problem. The criscam adapter puts out 1.35 volts and works fine with the meter. However, its wattage is too low to ignite the test light. Everyone who has used the GIII with the Chriscam adapter can attest to this problem. It will not affect the normal use of the camera. Interestingly, the new model QL 17 (just prior to the GIII) has a better battery test system.
