Pretty much like any seventies or eighties Nikon it is quite battery agnostic, and is perfectly satisfied with any of two SR44, two LR44 or one CR1/3N. The latter (lithium) are effectively the cheapest and last longest in cameras that are only occasionally used, the first (silver) last longest in a hard-worked camera - I only use alkalines (LR) temporarily when there is nothing better at hand, as they are least reliable and predictable and have a tendency to leak if left in the camera.

Wow! I had never heard that, and I've used them on several cameras for 25 years...

Lucky you. Going by the crud from the battery compartments of my collection, cameras that require lithium or silver cells almost always were clean, while a very considerable amount those taking alkalines and almost every camera/device requiring mercury cells had traces of a previous leakage.

Be sure to carefully examine new batteries before you put them in your camera. Some that are made in Asia are of poor quality and will leak quickly. Look for anything that looks like a bulge or discoloration in the separation between poles. Any white area, no matter how small could be trouble. I've had some new ones leak in a couple of weeks. I remove my batteries from both film and digital cameras if they aren't to be used in a week. That's how I caught one leaking battery before it damaged a favorite camera.

I just looked at my current batch of batteries. They are Sanyo 1/3N and have been very good. There is a European battery, I think Swiss I'm unsure of the name .. maybe Ray.. something. Maybe Juan will know. They too have been good. p.
found it Renata. They are good from my experience. Watch out for Duracell, many bad experiences here and from many friends.
