Hi friends,

Does anyone know of a rechargeable solution to the 2cr5 battery?

I seem to recall that some of the Nikon Coolpix cameras had rechargeable lithium batteries that were the same size as the 2cr5, and reported could be used as alternatives. Can someone confirm this?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi Tom

Hi Tom

I haven't seen rechargeable 2CR5's, as I've bought a bunch of Lithium's for my Hexar, for lke $3 each.

I've seen some 2CR5's that were made up of 2 3V batteries in a plastic gizmo that ended up the same size as a 2CR5, so if you could find out what those individual 3V batteries are (123s??) maybe those are rechargeable and you could make or find a holder for them.

The 5400/5700 generation use an EL-EN1 rechargeable lithium and can take a 2CR5 if you can't find anything else. The EN-EL1 is about 3/16" longer than a 2CR5 and I 've never had the opportunity to try one in place of the EN-EL1. If you app has the extra depth in the Battery compartment it may be worth trying.

Thanks guys.

Once I exhaust my first 2cr5, I'll be doing a battery 'autopsy' on it to figure out how the plastic case works. My understanding is that a 2cr5 is basically 2 x 123A batteries combined in a case with the electrical contacts up top.

Gerry, thanks for the tip on the 5400/5700 ... unfortunately I dont' think the Hexar AF has the extra depth, but I'll check around and see if I can find out.

Just would like to know if there are other possibilities when travelling in terms of battery availability 🙂 I'll pack extra batteries, but you never know about contingencies. Being able to work 2x 123A batteries would be a nice extra option.

Thanks

The Hexar AF doesn't work. I've already tried it and it's not deep enough. When I used to take the Hexar on a trip of a couple of weeks I used to take 3 2CR5's and never used the third. My Hexar got very good battery mileage.
