I am replacing the spotted beamsplitter in a range finder. Does anybody here know what Leitz' specs are for transmission/reflection? If not, can anybody here that has actually replaced their beamsplitter give me at least a ballpark idea of what I should be hunting for in the way of transmission?
Thanks much

Go for around 50/50. 75/25 will definitely not be helpful....ask me how I know.

Years ago I did beam splitter replacement on my Leica II and clones. Like Mr. F said, I used a 50/50 mirror from Edmund Scientific.

Thank you both.
Found one for $15.95 at Edmund Scientific.
75/25 works fine in noonday desert sun does it?

I get my beamsplitter material from surplusshed.com . They have 50/50 half-mirrors sometimes (like RIGHT NOW
) and for a lot less then Edmund Scientific. You will have to cut it down to the right size yourself though.

Thanks, saw those earlier but the "seem to be" qualifier put me off. If you've them already though I guess I'll give them a try.

It should be fine. I fixed the RF of a Kodak Retina II model 142 with it (second time round...after using the 75/25 material first
).

You'll need 65/35 for an M leica.

I have bought a beamsplitter mirror cut to size for Leica ltm from this seller:
http://myworld.ebay.com/nobbysparrow/
I'm looking forward to using je2a3's page as a reference when I do the work.
Normclarke, does 65% go to the viewfinder, and 35% to the rangefinder or visa versa?

Thanks for posting this link, I've purchased bits from this seller years ago and lost track!

CNNY,
I believe we may be at cross purposes here, my figures are for the beam splitter prism for an M camera. I think the S series body's had a different set up. The 35% is the transmission figure in the main prism.

70/30 was the original spec for Leica screwmounts, according to DAG.
