Went to a friend's place last night and as usual brought a camera. Ended up he knew a guy in a band who was playing some music at another house so we headed there. I had a few beer....and some port....and some sake, since I was using a Pentax MX it was all manual focus so I'm not positive that everything I shot was in focus (or that anything was in focus for that matter).

Since my MX only goes up to ISO 3200 (they usually only go to 1600 but I had mine set to underexpose by a stop) and it was dark I had no clue what my exposure was for most of the shots.

I was using Delta 3200 and after talking with my friend who was shooting digital we figured that my ISO would probably have to be around 10 000 (I thought I'd be able to get away with 28/2.8 wide open, turns out I should brought the 50/1.7 for the extra stop and a half).

So today I developed the film! All I had was d-76 (less than ideal) and somehow d-76 shows up on the Ilford dev times for ISO 12500! (sounds ridiculous I know but its true!) So I used that. Since I don't know how focus was I don't really care if they don't come out perfect.

Moral of the story is that everyone should shoot after a few drinks once in a while! Its a good excuse to experiment with a roll of film and whatever developer is lying around!

Negs are drying right now, everything looks pretty thin, but there's actually something on the Negs which is somewhat amazing! I'll post some as soon as they're scanned if anyone is interested.

If anyone else has any crazy experiments to show than post your's too!

Hah! I knew a guy who got married back in the mid '80's and had an slr at his wedding with which he took shots of the guests. He told me that when he got the processed film back, all of the shots were out of focus! Seems he had a bit too much to drink, and, while he had thought that all of the shots were in focus, they weren't. I always get a kick out of that story when I think about it.

What I find fun about shooting my friends' bands while drinking beer is my "previsualization" sometimes is far more accurate than I prefer 🙂

And yeah, there's never enough light.

As the master home brewer Charlie Papazian says, "Relax, have a home brew!"
And, "Worrying is like paying interest on a debt you may not owe."

It sounds like you have found a winning combination, ChrisP!

Okay most of it turned out pretty black, It might be doable with a faster developer, but it was worth a try. I'll try this again around 5 000 though probably with same developement time.

If anyone is wondering developing went like this
everything at about 22 celcius
water-20 inversions
d-76 stock-19 minutes-10 inversions to start 5 inversions/minute
than stop bath of vinegar 1:3

first is hp5+ at 1600 (the reason I got into this experiment in the first place)
all the rest are somewhere between 5000 and 12500

and a few more

and a few more

I don't know why these are so small? What is the best way to downsize to 200kb? I have lightroom and CS2

Anyways a couple more (sorry if anyone finds the content of the first of these 3 offensive, but I kind of like it)

A lot of people develop film in coffee. Beer probably undevelops film. Otoh for shooting film, beer is good for getting that particular post-modern je ne sais quoi.

I tend to shoot more when I drink, gets the shyness outta me. Which is a good thing, because there's alot of shots that I'd have missed if I was sober!

But really, I prefer my bourbon to beer, although it does not usually generate good images. 😉
