Beginners film :S

Yes, I ordered film on-line, in the pre-digital days. A few bricks of Fuji Superia and Agfa Vista, both 800ISO (I used to shoot a lot of concerts).

Never had any problems, but they only had to come from Germany, that's not very far.

Since I started shooting B/W again I have gotten my stuff from camera fairs and the HEMA supermarket in the Netherlands (rebranded Ilford).

Ah ? Is Hema B/W film rebranded Ilford ? That interests me, since I (mostly; I should limit myself) shoot HP5+. What are the names of the Hema versions for the different Ilford films (HP5+, FP4, Pan F), if there is an equivalent ?

Stefan.

I used the Hema stuff for general shooting. The film base seems more springy than the Ilford equivalents so, although the 400asa films character is fairly HP5-like, I suspect this is actually Foma or something like that. Ilford were very clear a few years ago that they no longer re-packaged emulsions for external brands.

Round here (southern Gelderland), the b+w has gone from the Hema branches within the last four months . . .is it still available anywhere else ?

Edit: I forgot to say that they stocked 400asa and 125asa, 35 mm, 36-exp rolls.

HP5 and Tri-X are usually the defacto beginner's film recommended by many people (and more often then not become the standard stock for many). You really can't go wrong with either one as they are both very forgiving in terms of exposure and development.

And as mentioned, Ilford ID-11 is identical to Kodak D-76.

If you believe several posts on photo.net, it is indeed Ilford. Hard to verify though 😉

HEMA sells 125 film (presumably FP4+) and 400 (presumably HP5+). I have to check the times on the box against the Ilford times.
