It isn't for me, but I did take note of the noise - lack thereof - in that ISO6400 shot.

I think its just some gentle humour...there have been some very nasty and aggressive threads on rff just lately but so far this isn't one of them.
And of course there will be many people who need exactly this kind of camera (my investment in Nikon precludes Canon but some of my SLR gear and lenses is physically huge and one of the reasons I like to shoot with the G2 when I can) but that doesn't mean we can't smile at the size of the thing...and the latest round of cramming more functionality into a camera - these days it's still a light tight box - but one that's stuck in the middle of a computer...

Oh, come on. It's all in fun. It's an ugly sumnabitch of a camera. So's my Kiev 60 film cam - absolutely hideous, the Shemp Howard of cameras. I'm sure the Canon takes great pics, every bit as good as my Yashica GSN.

I find it very ugly. No matter what the pros may say, I prefer my contax IIIa and my pentacon six. I prefer to "waste" my money on other things.
This said, it's just my personal opinion. I've used a 20D to take photos at some official events, it's very handy and practical, but just not my kind of tool.

No doubt a great camera, but it is way beyond a 35mm camer now. Why not just get a `blad digi and be done with it?

I've been shooting with borrowed IS lenses recently. 400mm f5.6, 1/125th, very handy.
I don't get the animosity toward this kind of gear. Clearly it's not the right kind of camera for many people here, but it certainly is the top of the heap in its part of the world.
I'd hate to be on the sidelines of some event trying to make my living with my R3A.
No doubt they'll sell a great number of them to guys who just like to fondle the lastest and greatest gear, but I think there might be one or two among us who have been known to indulge as well.
Well put!
The 10fps is pretty impressive. To shoot at that rate and buffer and save is indicative of a pretty powerful camera. You can laugh at it, but Canon didn't put this camera out to be excessive and macho. I doubt I could ever put this Canon its full use, but the gear fondler/photographer/techno-photo-geek in me would love to shoot wth it for a day.

Make photos, not war.
To me the new Canon monster is indicitive of everything that's photography these days. It's all glitz, hype, unecessary bulk, user-unfriendlyness and slightly superior electronics, all designed to be made redundant within two years at most.
I will much rather take the timeless elegance and beautifully simplicity of my M2 over any such electronical camera any day of the week.
I vote the new Canon MK III as the SUV of photography!

And that proves what? The Leica M6 and this Canon are entirely different cameras for entirely different applications. Try shooting some of the volleyball pics in the slideshow with an M6. For most newspaper photojournalism, the advantage of digital is just the convenience but that does not mean there are no areas where particular kinds of cameras will excel. If I had to shoot landscapes, I'd still use my 4x5. But if I had to make a living shooting wildlife or sports, you can bet I'd want this camera.

It's not the kind of camera I'd want, but it is good to see Canon still developing full-frame sensors and getting what sounds like very good results - I'm hoping a camera with something like a 20mp full-frame sensor at an affordable (for me) price won't be too many years in the future, and this has to be good news on the progress front.
(Oh, obviously I'll want both a 20mp full-frame digital SLR that will take my Olympus Zuiko lenses and a 20mp full-frame digital rangefinder that will take my CV lenses - manufacturers take note please)

Wow, that canon is not full frame, I wonder how large it would have to be to have a full frame sensor?

You know this guy, don't you?
Yes, Michael could have gotten that shot with a M6 with 35mm, if he had been allowed to the pit lane. From where the lower PJs where allowed to shoot, they had to use 400/2.8s with 2x TCs.
It's not my topic nor is it my way of shooting, but I know that sometimes one needs these tools.

Same size, the 24x36 equipped 1Ds is built on the same body. Ok, the 1D MkIII is slightly smaller than the 1D and 1Ds.

Errrrm, Oscroft, this huge thing has only a half-frame sensor - 28 x 18
I'm glad that there are alternatives to this sort of camera for me, but I realise that for commercial use it might sometimes be convenient. Sighhhhhhh . . .
EDIT: Hahahaha, everyone pointed out the same thing about the sensor, within seconds. I wonder what thread has the highest peak post-rate ?

My Shen Hao 4x5 is bulkier than this Canon. But it isn't unnecessary bulk because I have no other way of making the images it makes. Similarly, unless you know of a way to put in 10fps with burst rates of 100 images into the frame of an M2, I don't see how this is unnecessary.

I don't try to claim this is a bad camera or an unnessary tool, I say it is sometimes "a who has a bigger genitalia" issue.Especially with amateurs.

I am with you there - "especially with amateurs."
I find that I am incapable of pushing most of my quite cheap film cameras and lenses to their limits. Yet there is no dearth of people chasing the proverbial magic bullet, be it the Mark III, the legendary Leica look, or the latest APO-Schneider on the coolest Ebony. My lenses are limited by one factor, ME! More money will not solve that problem - more skill and practice might

if people would sell one of their least used lenses(be it a leica or an L) and get second hand artbooks\museum admissions\seminar for that money it would give them a world of good.
