Being noticed with your 'antique' camera

Some time ago on a wedding I noticed the official photog with his Nikonator giving me a half-smile like thinking 'oh look what a fun looking toy camera'...

But the funnier think I've heard came from my own friends when I was going to take them a photo with my Rolleicord, 'Hey you forgot to bring the powder flash!' 🙂

And I still remember when I went to the campus photo store asking them for a soft case to hold my black Kiev. The store owner hold it in his hands and said 'Hey we don't see these REAL cameras anymore!'.

All their cases were too small, but I left the store pretty happy anyway ! 😀

Sometimes the bear gets you, but sometimes you actually do get the bear. 😀 I bought a second GSN from a forum member that is in exquisite shape except that a stich on the case was coming undone. I took it to our favorite tailor - a Ukranian woman - who said she didn't have anything to sew it with and I should find a cobbler. So I go to a guy who's been repair shoes for just shy of forever here in Madison and show him the case.

"Don't see many people who know about Yashica's these day's" Whoot! We get into a nice long conversation on classic cameras - he has several Yashica TLR's and more other goodies than I can list - as he sews up the case like new. I go to leave and ask him how much and he says it's free, thanks for the conversation. Now I just need to convince him that I'd give a good home to his Militrary Issue (with trunk and all accessories) Speed Graphic... 🙂

Sometimes recognition is nice.

I was once asked 'Is that digital??' when using my Bessa L...

I got asked the same thing just today with my L. I brought it in to work to load it with some PanF I picked up. I got asked:

"how old is THAT camera" 😱
"is that digital" 🙄
"why did you buy THAT" 🙄 🙄

and my favorite...

"well,... how do you look through it" 😛

My favorite line was from a waitress when I was using my Crown graphic 4x5 with a SunPak 544 Flash:

"My, that's a big one."😉
