Nice to see you still have some color up your way. I've been up & down Bent Mtn. a few times running up 221 to Floyd & even over to Hillsville. Not my favorite rd. to travel in a 10 wheel tanker truck. You should plan a trip over to Floyd. Then head over to Tuggles Gap. Always wanted to photograph the resturaunt there. Then head down hwy 8 to Woolwine to photograph all the covered bridges. I use to see so many places I wanted to photograph, just hard to do driving at work. I once drove from Rocky Mount Va. to Woolwine. Once you pass a certain spot it says No trucks over 35ft. I said I'm only a 10 I'll make it. I did, but glad there wasn't any traffic coming while I went through the loops. I won't do it again.

These were taken on Nov 1st, Greg, and as you can see, lots of the trees are already naked. I just didn't have the gas to burn when the peak hit.
I went through Woolwine back in late September, just after the beginning of Fall. The only thing turning then were the stinking Paradise trees. Came from Rocky Mount on 40, then up 8 to Floyd, with a return on 221.

They've almost got the new section of four-lane done on 221 where the 90 degree curve used to be coming out of Roanoke. Floyd has gotten too touristy now for my taste. Can't find a parking spot, and you have to dodge all the idiots walking in the middle of the street.
I got some shots of the old station/motel at the county line on 8 just south of Tuggles Gap, but now I see I haven't uploaded them yet. This old brain of mine just can't keep up sometimes.

Thats a good trip. That stretch of 40 seemed to me to take forever. I didn't recall seeing much of anything in that area worth stopping for, even if I could, but Woolwine, Floyd, & your right about Floyd now, touristy, I found interesting. Heck, I even find Boones Mill interesting. I stopped in the old toy/ hobby store in Boones Mill a few years back & bought my stepson a model car. They have some neat stuff. These were taken on Nov 1st, Greg, and as you can see, lots of the trees are already naked. I just didn't have the gas to burn when the peak hit.
