You probably heard that Bert Stern recreated his Marilyn Monroe "Last Sitting" shoot with Lindsay Lohan for New Yorker magazine, but the best news to me is that he shot her on film, not with a digital! Hooray! A magazine shoot on film in 2008. Who woulda thunk it?!

NUDITY WARNING

P.S.- The shots are indeed nicely done and true to the originals with Marilyn, but its clear that the shoot can be recreated but Marilyn can never be duplicated.

Having seen the other photos from this shoot I find them boring.
Also, and this may be the medium it's being translated upon, they lack "clarity" imho. That is, they appear rather "muddy" (for the lack of a better word).

Add to that that the subject hardly looks interested in doing these I would say that they were done in the "any publicity must be good publicity" vein.

Quite possible, but the big deal to me is the mag accepted it on film. I guess the publicity caused by the shoot didn't hurt film's chances either....

I agree with you completely, Dave. It would seem impossible to recreate that original session and get anywhere near those emotions to come through. Kind of like what I sense when seeing an Elvis impersonator.

Yep.. :)

Definitely.

If you were to see the "real" Elvis back in his hey day it may have been with a sense of wonderment. When you see an Elvis impersonator in the present day you sort of chuckle to yourself and think "man... that's so cheezy it's funny".

Just a quick point of order: the pictures are in New York magazine, not the New Yorker. For a minute I thought there were going to be nude pictures Ms. Lohan in my New Yorker this week. No such luck. Ah well, that's why God created the internet.

Perhaps Stern keeping the freckles was to remain consistent with the MM shoot as she insisted to leave her scar in from her appendectomy

Wonder if he used the same setup Nikon F and 105 2.5, 50 1.4 ?

I know one thing that would be different would be the film, in his book many of the color images (perhaps from aging) have a slight magenta cast

Either way it was an interesting concept but I think it turned out 2nd rate

BTW, supposedly according to some of the gossip pages Lohan's camp is saying that Stern didn't tell her it was going to be in a magazine spread, supposedly he told her it would be for a future gallery showing ... oh well

I agree that the photos are so-so, but my opinion is that it is Stern who didn't "have it". Technically there are no real problems, but he didn't bring out any emotion in Lohan. The photos are devoid of emotion and sexiness. Which is sorta sad when you consider she has a nice body.

ehh w Marilyn I guess they got drunk and Bert was a fun flirty guy more her age. I'm older than my models but 23 and 80 is just too big a gap.
