Is it true that when you do medium format you need to switch no only the negative carrier but also the condenser?

One of the good things about your model is the adjustable condenser - handles from sub 35mm to 6x9 cm negs. Look for the adjusting knob and scale on the right side of the condenser housing.

Oh ya I was wondering about that. Why is that adjustment necessary ? Is the condenser focusing the light beam so that it is brightest at the lens? or some other reason? The size of the light beam ?? Thank you.
