Bessa eyepiece

I just got a Bessa R4M, and as I was walking around with it on a strap, I heard something hit the ground and roll towards me. I quickly realized that it was the eyepiece. It obviously came unscrewed while bumping against my body as I walked about. I instantly remembered reading a thread here about that problem, and quickly picked it up from the sidewalk.

I was wondering if anybody has any fix for this. I hesitate to use an adhesive to make it stay in place, but I am open for other possible solutions.

You'd think that through four generations of Bessas that CV would be able to make this piece actually stay in place...

Do they sell spare eyepieces? I was annoyed when I realized that the eyepiece was gone. I tried looking for it but I had no luck. 🙁

I bought one to replace the one I lost from Rich Pinto. Our head bartender(Camera Quest) probably sells them also.
I put a tiny dot of nail polish on it after I screwed it down fairly tightly.

I replaced mine with a Nikon one made for an FM-10 camera (also made by Cosina).

This worries me, as I am waiting for the R2 to arrive which I bought from another member and, if we fit together, hope to use for many years. Is the eyepiece just physical or is it optical as well? Is it round or rectangular?

I don't know if the R2 has the same eyepiece as the R2a and later cameras but the one on my R2a is round and has a piece of glass in it--I guess if you needed a diopter for the camera, it would be optical but for no diopter it's just a cover.

I had to replace one on R3A when I had the camera.

You can use Nikon FM/FE ones and they are perfect fit.

Nikon screw-in ones come adrift too. But in my experience the leica diopters stay put.

I find that due to the position of the strap lugs on the Bessa's, the eyepiece rubs on my body as I walk (especially with lighter lenses) which causes the eyepiece to turn and come loose. I allways check for this when I an done shooting and tighten if required. Nail polish sounds like a good idea though, I might give it a go....

I don't think it's a -1D, at least in my R2A, it's plain glass..
Anyway it never detached on my camera and you can easily substitute it with any eyepiece for Nikon FE, FM and later..

The PDF manual and photos on a web site show that the R2 has a rectangular eye-piece, like the FM10, while the RxA and RxM have round ones, like that of the FM3.

I use that rubber piece for the Nikon. It works, for what it is worth. I had trouble reading the numbers without it, but now have no issues.

Lost mine first week, found it, put it on and applied a bit of tightening, hasn't happened again. Cameraquest does sell them, plain and diopters. I also tried the Nikon ones, and those fit fine; mine at least were metal (didn't/don't know about this rubber piece for Nikon mentioned above), so I went the Cameraquest route. They also do diopters, which is what I use.

Cameraquest have the full range of diopters. Ordered one for my R-D1, plain replacement as the rubber has perished. I actually have a set of -1 -2 -3 (I think) that came along with the R-D1. I´m not shortsighted and can rid myself of them, free of charge (postage would need to be covered). Which other Cosina product they may fit I wouldn´t know.
