The best camera is one that still works!
I received this email from the Australian Voigtlander distributor, Mainline Photographics, this morning.
All we can do is speculate and wait I guess!
Dear ever so patient Bessa III folks,
As many of you are aware the price for the Bessa III has been posted on the German website
in Euro’s (1999 of them to be exact).
First let me point out that NO official price in yen has come to us from Japan. This can mean
only two things one the German’s have jumped the gun or that Cosina is toying with us!!!
Going on past experience I think it is the former.
We cannot give out a price until we know the factory yen price. As we do not operate on the
same margins as the Europeans or any were else do.
Also we are not sure if we will sell the Bessa III direct sale only and cut out the
wholesale retail margin. To be honest I’m not sure yet. But one thing we will try to do is keep the
price as low as possible so as many folks who want to buy them can.
I will keep you posted.
Kind Regards

Keith, check your emails again. Received the same email quoted above and then a second with the price announced at $A3250. This is way above my budget for the camera so my name will be coming of the waiting list.

Wouldnt mind checking one of these out in the store.
Will never buy one at that price though.

It's a bit tragic ... back when it was mentioned that Mainline were taking pre orders for the camera I had a full time job and the camera was expected to be under $2000.00 AUD ... I definitely wanted one!
How things can change ... part time work that barely keeps me afloat and a plunging Aussie dollar have definitely shut me out of potential ownership of the folder.
[edit] ... to all you folks on the other side of the pond with folder gas ... $3250.00 AUD translates into $2200.00 USD which is what you'll probably be paying for it I supect!

Which translates to roughly what I paid for it.. 230,000 Yen.
I find it strange that they are saying there was no Yen price for the camera as Yodabashi Camera had it on there web site at least 8 weeks ago at 230,000 Yen.
Dirk's already had his hands on one..

on that link you provided, it shows it must be a camera for rich people, the dude in some of the the pictures is a surgeon, but forgot to take his mask off when he went to the fuji display!!

Naaah ... the air that people who can afford this camera breathe is so rarified that when they're out in public they need a special mask!

Still cheaper than virtually any of the new Leica lenses... or a new Ferrari.
I still won't buy one though.

of course he may not be a surgeon, or drinking in the expensive rarified air (lol keith), ...its likely that his occupation is a Robber, the camera is so priceless and he is going to steal it haha

True, but the Leica lens is built around the German interchangeable body concept and is backwards compatible with light tight boxes dating back to 1954.

So who's buying these things? According to Fuji, they are selling 'em so fast they can't get enough parts to make them? Japanese collectors?

Japanese and probably the new rich Chinese. All the quality cameras that happen to end up in the second hand stores in Hidalgo, Manila are snapped up by agents from main land China and Hong Kong.

Odd the things we choose as fetishes. Who would have figured.
