Bessa quirks: film take-up spool goes backwards?

Hey Bessa Owners, I just received my first Bessa R2 and I noticed that the take-up spool goes in the opposite direction (right to left) of most of my other 35mm cameras (normally left to right).

I've searched the forums, but can't find anyone else mentioning this quirk. Can't you scratch the emulsion easier this way since it's on the outside?

Anyone have any idea why Cosina designed things this way?

I have several cameras that have the take up spool this direction. I have never had the film scratched as a result of that.

Thanks for the reassurance--the motion just seems so foreign to me.

What other cameras also do this?

Off the top of my head, I know that the Canon P rangefinder does.

I also believe that the Rollei 35 does.

Actually I have a Bessa L that scratched the last few frames. I bought it knowing this and was able to find a small protrusion in the take up chamber that I filed down. Since then I have had no problems.
