Bessa R and retractable lens

I just purchased a Bessa R and have read that certain lens that retract will mess with the shutter. I have a Leica 2.0-50mm Summitar and a Leica 2.8- 50 mm that is being cleaned. Since they both retract I have been afraid to put them on the Bessa R. I did read that some Russian lens will affect the lens, any ideas on these to that I have?

As Leicasniper said, collapsible lenses will wreck the shutter curtains. Just don't push them in.

In the M6 and M6TTL and also in the M5, the Jupiter 12 (35mm) lens causes a problem because of its long rear section that blocks the meter in all these cameras. But that's a different story.

I beg to differ. I have a Bessa R and a Summitar that I collapse all the time.

Before I tried it, I measured the clearance with a micrometer and saw that there was enough room to collapse it and not hit the shutter. It works fine EXCEPT that the Bessa R has what looks like a light baffle just inside the lens mount. Sometimes when collapsing the lens I can feel the edge of the lens barrel touch this baffel. The result has been some light scratches on the baffle inside the Bessa R, but no scratches on the Summitar barrel.

So it's not perfect but it works. I've been using my Summitar on the Bessa this way for over a year.

I use mein Leica 2,8/50 collapsible on my R4A and to retract it. The body of the R4A has something like a "stopping edge" right in front of the shutter so that the back end of the lens cannot collide with the shutter.
I do not know whether this is an R4A-only feature...

I cut down some plastic name embossing tape, wrapped it around the barrel of a Jupiter 50 lens, and collapsed it into a Bessa R. The tape prevented any unwanted contact with the shutter, the sensor, or whatever it is in there that can be trashed by a fully collapsing lens.

The advantage? It fit into a coat pocket a little better.
