I recently bought a Bessa R and have read numerous places that the Jupiter 12 extends too far into the body and can damage the shutter.
Being curious, I put the camera on bulb and tried my J12 and found it does not appear to come close enough to the curtains to do any damage.
It did obscure the meter sensor ... but that seemed to be about it.
So my questions are:
Is anyone using a J12 on a Bessa R?
Is there some other reason not to use this combination of camera and lens?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

There seem to be a lot of variations of the Jupiter-12. Apparently some can be mounted on the Bessa and others can not. A picture of a J-12 that doesn't fit the Bessa-L is shown here: http://cameras.alfredklomp.com/jupiter12/

What's most unfortunate is that you can't judge a J-12 in that respect without trying.. (otherwise I'd already have bought one over the net for my Bessa-T)..

Peter, my understanding is that the meter will not work (the cell is obscured by the lens), but it shouldn't damage the shutter. I don't have j12 so I can't speak from my own experience.

Peter,

I have a J12 and a Bessa R and have used the combination successfully. The J12 I have does not hit anything but does obscure the meter. I use the reading from a 50mm or carry a hand meter when using the combination. The pictures are finde but you do lose the metering abilility when using the J12.
