for those of you following along at home, I just "won" the Bessa R with the Nikkor f2 85MM lens
from EBAY Silver body and silver lens

I have a Jupiter 8 f2 50MM also coming from evilbay

I am thinking of adding a 35/2.5 OR 25/4 Snapshot-Skopar

I have been shooting 35MM with a gaggle of Spotmatics and medium format with a Kiev 60 & 88
but I like the idea of small and light+fast for availaable light evening/night shots. I will be going to Vegas in a couple of months, I figure they don't like a lot of indoor shooting at the tables but there should be some interesting shots outside at the various hotels. [I will be inside during the day for meetings]

commnets, suggestions concerns laughing out loud......?

I have the color-skopar 28 3.5 and haven't had problems with it at all. Speed can be enhanced by the film, try fuji's 800 or 1600 with the 3.5 and you should have more than enough speed to handhold at 1/30. I love my Bessa R and use it regularly with the Jupiter 8 and the 28. Sometimes I take it out witht he Jupiter 3, 1.5, but the difference between the 8 and the 3 is very little and the 8 is better.

Here's a photo of my Bessa R with a Vivitar 35 ES. I'm posting this for you to see how small it is. The camera is large in comparison to the lens, whereas the 1.9 is much larger. As stated earlier, speed can be enhanced by the choice of film.

ManGo

ah, no I will be at a confrence discussing artificial legs and body braces [prosthetics & orthotics] My wife however.....

I look forward to taking some shots outside. the place is so Disneyland on steroids. I am looking for a location or two for the drive home. My wife is into painting and I can take shots for her to use for her watercolors.

Amazing, my wife is a watercolorist. She has won some local contests and sold some of her work. She has painted from some of my photos. She has helped me develop a better sense of composition. Good luck on your trip!

Thanks, my wife is taking classes on Tuesday evenings and I plan on going to a school nearby that has photography classes. I figure it cannot hurt, and help me decide if I want to set up a darkroom again [last time I played in the darkroom was 1972] or just go with photoshow and a good printer

I'm kinda slow. I just figured out your handle on this. Had to laugh! I have experienced darkroom work and enjoyed it, but I can't set aside the space or commit to the process. I have found a workable solution. I found a lab in Az that will develop, special requests included, print a contact sheet and return them. I scan them on an Epson 3170 and work on them on the computer. Then, and this is the best part here, burn those I want to a CD and take it to the local photo shop and have them print them on their professional digital printer. Unbelievable prints! For small prints 4x6 or so I take them to Wal Mart or Moto Photo and print them there. I don't print enough to pay for the ink cartridges. They go dry in my printer. In LA you could find a good lab for that I'm sure.

I have a good lab {foto-hall in Fullerton Calif.} as for printing, I only printed B&W, so I really am kinda comparing apples and oranges, since most of the printers are better at color.

. My wife has agreed to a garage darkroom [I figure using the master bathroom a couple of times would convince her anyway 🙂 ]

Oh, and my handle refers to our 2 Tacoma Double cab trucks, I belong to a truck club that is mostly Tacomas

Thanks for the clarification on the handle, you are talking about Toyota Tacomas, yes? The lab here does exception b&w with the printers they have. I asked and they have multiple black ink cartridges. I wish I could email one but that involves scanning and it would be a poorer representation of the original. Anyway, good luck with the dark room. Does this mean the Tacomas must sleep outside?

yeah Toyota Tacoma tortilla for short. and yes they WILL be sleeping outside

I love my cameras and photography but we get hail storms that can destroy a car as well as roof and windows. My vehicles stay indoors. Good luck on your darkroom!

My sister and brother-in-law got married in Vegas a few years ago and I asked at the hotel I stayed at and the others and shooting indoors wasn't much of a problem. I should say--being allowed to shoot.--my photos, other than the wedding itself, weren't especially good.
If you have time, I recommend going to Hoover Dam. That's fairly amazing.
I recently got a Bessa R and, ooh baby!, I am astonished with the viewfinder!
I own mostly FSU cameras and I like 'em but they will be waiting on the shelf for now as I spend some time using the R.
I have the CV 35 on the R and my J-8 and J-9 lenses in the bag. I also got the CV 21 and that's in there too.
Enjoy the trip!
Rob

Hello Dan,
Glad you like your new Voigtlander. I bought 2 R's, 2 L's, 12,21,25,28/1.9,35/1.7,50/1.5,and the 75 plus accessories
for about what I figure that digital I wanted would cost!

-This stuff is Kiev-priced in terms of the value you get for what you spend.

BTW Thanks again for the photos of my Cobra-covered Kiev 6c!

You are more than welcome.

I just got a jupiter 8 f2 50MM I thought he sent me an empty BOX really nice clean lens. but not a KIEV in weight 😀

Of the 28/1.8 35/1.7 or the 50/1.5 which one would you buy first?

after seeing a Nikkor 85/2 go for $499 I think I am going to sell mine I think I could just about get the fast lens and still pick up a 75MM too

I use the 50/1.5 alot, with the CV 50 viewfinder on the R. Great for low-light photography!
The 28/1.9 and 35/1.7 are also outstanding, guess it depends on your personal preferences.

I've done some rock-band photography EI800 50/1.5 @ 1/8, hand-held, in a no-light, smokey bar. A friend tried to take a pix with a cel-phone, the LCD image was -black-. My results with the 50/1.5 were amazing, the rendering off the colored stage lights, etc.

The 75 is also excellant, although I've not used mine much (yet). I don't have a 90, and I think the 75 is more useful.

Used to have an M2 with a black 90 f2 Summicron. I think I prefer the CV75!

I have the 28mm, f3.5, and love it. Great photos and it is quite small. I just received a VC 28mm viewfinder and have been using it to frame my shots. Before, I just used the full viewfinder beyond the 35mm framelines. I can tell the difference only in closer shots. My ultimate travel bag with the R would be the 28, 50 f2.5, and the 90. Two small lenses that can be put in a pocket or small bag and they all take 39mm filters. Compact and fully functional.
