Bessa R2 for the amateur?

Some good stuff in your flickr gallery, Gregoris. I particularly liked "Fast".

The R2 is a good camera. And so is the M2. From a user perspective, if you don't use long lenses, they are very similar, IMO. Still, since "Money is tight and times are hard", lot's of other stuff you can do with 500 EUR ... and sometimes, when you wait, better deals come along.

Thank you ferider. I do have to refrain from buying an expensive camera, acting on an impulse. Delayed gratification is a tough nut to crack! 🙂

500 Euros for an R2 and Color Skopar, is a so-so deal, you can likely do better. My Leica IIIf with lens cost less than 500 Euros. That's not to say you should get a IIIf instead of an R2, in many ways the R2 is the more usable, in some ways, better camera. However, Leica sets the bar for pricing, and you've got to offer something to get priced above that.

Judging by the 500 Euro tag, it's got to be from one of those shops at Blvd. Beaumarchais (or if not in Paris, they probably got their pricing reference from one of those shops). Most of those places have hyperinflated prices.

I recommend you look via eB@y; if you find it in the EU you won't have to pay any import taxes (it's evident, but some people don't know that), and even when you include shipping, it tends to translate into huge savings.
