Does any one use an Elmar 3.5 50mm lens with there Bessa R2 or R3? Does it collapse completely? Is it fragile for the lens or the camera? is it recomended ? Thanks

You can try it by setting the shutter on B, open the back and press the shutter button and keep it open. Then collapse the lens and you can check how deep it goes.

Thanks. I have the Elmar but I dont have a Bessa yet. I am just curious if any one uses this combo.

not there quiet yet
i have this combo and use it from time to time.
i do not collapse the lens (only collapsible that i can put inside R3A is coll. cron).
it's true that this modern body with such a particular old lens looks a bit odd, but it never bothered me.
elmar should be used with a hood. flare problems are gone since i have put FIKUS on.
have a nice day.

I have the Elmar 50/3.5 and had the R3A, and they were a good combo, particularly b/c you can shoot in AE mode and forget the fiddly aperture lever on the lens.
To answer your question: The 50/3.5 Elmar will not collapse completely into the R3A (I don't believe it will collapse completely in any Bessa body). However, there is a workaround. Here's what I do w/ the Elmar on my Bessa T, and did w/ the Elmar on the R3A: get an elastic hair doodle (the kind used for tying hair in a ponytail) and wrap it several times around the lens barrel. It acts like a bumper. The lens can be partially collapsed, but not so far that it will collide w/ the inside of the camera. A rubber band can also work.

Thanks Steve for the tips. If I buy a Bessa, I will try it.

That's what I do with my Bessa R and the Elmar 50/3.5. Rubber bands worked okay, but they tend to roll up or break. The hair thingy, borrowed from my wife, is perfect! Someone else said they found an O ring at a hardware store and use that. I'm still looking for one of those.
