Hi

Just a quick question regarding sourcing a particular part for my Bessa R2.

The service technician currently working on my R2 is having a real problem finding a "rewind lockdown screw". Any suggestions for possible sources would be welcome. He's Leica trained and is going over it with a fine tooth comb! Also any opinions on the importance of said part (i.e. can I operate without it)

Regards

Tim

Hi Tim, I recently tried to source a part for a Voigtlander LTM Skopar 28mm F3.5 lens directly from Cosina, and was told that the lens is too old and they no longer carry spare parts for it. Since your Bessa R2 is around the same vintage as that lens, I expect the situation would be the same for it as well, unfortunately.

Is the "rewind lock down screw" the screw marked in this photo? If so, without it I don't think you're going to have an attached rewind lever, so won't be able to rewind film. I expect that your repair guy should be able to modify another screw to use here, though. It may not look quite the same, but as long as it works! Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. Was afraid that was the case! Will see what Charles come up with, but will suggest the DIY approach.

Is it possible to replace the rewind mechanism altogether? Just curious. I recently bought an R. Sometimes I wince when rewinding a roll that for some reason is tighter and requires more torque. I fear the handle will snap.

Hi Tim, could you let us know what happens? Good luck!

I had a similar issue with mine when I was in Berlin. I had found a repair guy who did a DIY machine job on it which was spectacular - German engineering!!! When I got back to Oz, Resa at 5 Star Camera in Sydney was able to scrounge a replacement: info@fivestarcamerarepairs.com.au.

Best of luck!

Thanks Sam. Have contacted them. Fingers crossed.

I'm really missing not being able to get out and do some shooting with the R2!
