I'm guessing that its either no. 81 or no. 1081 R2S off the production line, and the first three or four digits indicate it's an R2S.

Do you have a picture to share??
I think the R2C and R2S had a low production, maybe 2000 to 3000 total for each. These are destined to be classics for Contax/Nikon RF owners.

Black R2 bought used here: sn 0003013

BTW, my Nikon FG's bottom case fits the R2 perfectly.

Well, Cosina did make the Nikon FM10, FG and assorted Private labels: Promaster, Vivitar. So this does not surprise me.

Got this off Camera Quest Web Page about the Bessa L. there was some Cosina History mixed in too. (as is most of the great camera lit. they share while describing a camera.

Bought mine here about a week ago. Number 3922. Here's a couple of shots from my first film using the R2 and a Rokkor 40 on Saturday. (The guy on the near post of the goal is my son.)

A while back at Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku, Tokyo I had the opportunity to directly compare a Bessa R2 with a Nikon FM10. The shutter (looking from the rear), the shape and size of the eyepiece, the design and layout of the film compartment, the shutter speed dial (including available shutter speeds and synch speed) etc. where identical. So I think its a pretty safe bet to say that a Bessa R2 is essentially an FM10 with the mirror box removed and a rangefinder added. Except that the Bessa is mostly metal whereas the FM10 is mostly plastic. They're both produced by Cosina and are both great cameras so there's nuthin' wrong with that :)

Thanks, Don't see many of these. My dad's long time friend/collector has a few R2C's for his Contax collection. They Fitch around $500,00 still I think. It most be nice to use Nikon RF lens's on a TTL RF. Although the Nikon RF has a longer RF Base. This is the Voigtlander Legacy, Short base RF on Fine TTL Bodies.

Unfortunately my time with the R2S was shortlived.

Today I planned to go out shooting with it for the very first time, but when I loaded a roll of film and tried to advance to frame 1 the shutter jammed solid. So instead of going out shooting I ended up dropping by the shop where I purchased it. I could have sent it off for repair, but didn't feel inspired to do so with a camera that jammed with its very first roll of film. I got a full refund instead.

Oh well ....

I bought the last new black R2 that Photo Village had on eBay last year, serial no. 0005065. I'm curious to see what the serial number is on the new old stock Olive R2 that I ordered from CameraQuest recently.
