Hello everyone,
I read this wonderful forum for several months, but this is my first post. First, sorry my bad English. 🙂
Friday came my new Bessa R2A. A beautiful camera! But I had a strange problem. To familiarize with the camera, so I took some shots (without film). I turned off by main switch on / off. When I turned on again after a few hours, the film advance lever did not work (it was going to empty) and the shutter button was locked. So, I changed the batteries; then I opened the back door. When I closed the back door, after some movements, the camera has started to work.
Yesterday I used the R2A all day and was ok. I can't understand what is happened and what is the reason. The seller said it is nothing to worry about, unless the problem repeats itself, but he was unable to explain why this happened. The only reason I can assume is that when I opened the back door, I found a piece of protective paper that I removed. Perhaps the paper had caused the problem...
What you think? Thanks to those who want to help me understand. I am a little worried...
Cheers

I had the same thing happen when my Bessa arrived. I'm not sure, but this may be the solution: The film advance lever locks if the film reaches the end of a roll during a film advance stroke. The manual says to rewind the entire roll and then complete the stroke of the film advance lever after removing the film cannister.

I think I just gave the film rewind lever some turns and then followed those directions.

Thanks for your reply! I am a little comforted to know that the problem is not only happened to me... I had thought about what you say, but I have not checked the film counter to be sure that it had arrived at the end. The strange thing is that the film advance lever was going to empty, instead of remaining locked. But perhaps the lever is blocked, as the manual, only when there is a film in the camera.

Another possible explanation ... Yes, certainly Bessa was on A mode, but unfortunately now I can't remember if the cap was or not there. In this case the film advance lever was to turn empty?
Thanks, Luigi
