Hi,

I´ve a Bessa R2A and a Zeiss 50mm f/2.0. I´ve noticed at least two times that the meter goes berserk. Both times it showed blinking 1 and blinking 2000. The temperature was maybe around -4 to -10 °C when this happend. I live in Iceland so it´s not that uncommon for me to use a camera in these weather conditions. Has anyone had similar experience? Or is this nothing to worry about?

-4 to -10 deg. C is what, 24 to 14 deg. F? Batteries will not function as well in cold conditions but that doesn't seem too cold to me. I have an R2a as well and will shortly be going to the Adirondack mountains for the winter. Didn't have the camera last winter;was using an R. I typically keep the camera under my coat until I'm actually going to shoot a picture. I was out a bit yesterday and the temps were about as cold as your example and no problems. New ish battery--I'm using a single 1/3 N battery.

The cold weather is messing with your batteries, not the meter. I experienced this problem this weekend as well. It did make me pine for my M2.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I must admit that I´m a little calmer now hearing that this is the battery but not the meter. I´ve owned the camera for a year and never exchanged batteries and probably shot 30-40 films with it. So should I just exchange the battery and I´m good to go.

And yeas regarding the weather -10°C should not be that cold.

I use the camera in the cold all the time. The problem is the cold weather will make the battery drain faster, so if your battery is almost dead or dying, the -10 celsius isn't going to help matters.
