Bessa R3a or M7 .85?

I agree with Jon entirely. My equipment has taken away all my excuses. My photographs are still poor.

And re: the quality of the R2A's VF. Bright it is, and it flares less than my M6's VF. Yes, heretical, but so it is.

HCB with a disposable camera would take better pictures than me with an M7.

well, i don't really want to replace the person behind my camera. so i'm going to stick with what i have. and my r3a.

the baselength of R3a is not long enough, even if it has a 1:1 finder, the focusing patch just does not snap on as crisply as Leica. I am using MP and M4/M3, bought the R3a just wanted to try it out myself. Well, I have sold the R3a, the finder is bright and clear, but the fatal weakness is its focusing patch department, my comparatively dimmer M3 finder (cla done) is easier to focus than R3a.

in this world, you get what you pay for.

The R3A's focussing is that bad? Can't it be adjusted (if it's off)? Or is it a design flaw? What if I don't shoot wide open like around at F5.6? 🙂

Frank,

It's the fact that the effective length of the rangefinder it's self is short.

Take a look here:

They should give you enough info so you will soon be an expert on the subject.

I have several Bessas and am getting a new R for my son to start learning with. I have T's and have yet to have a problem with the RF going out of wack. Have heard of it happening, and know if you purchase from a good dealier (e.g. www.cameraquest.com) you should not have any problems with a quick turnaround to getting it fixed.

Hope this helps.

Bill, I plan on using a 40mm F2, a 90mm F4, and possibly a 50mm F2 in the future. These lenses should pose no focusing problem with the R3A, correct?

That's absolute no problem using these lenses with a R3A. Stronger the R3A can do more than that. I've owned a Bessa 2 (viewfinder 0.7)with a 75mm f2.5 and never had out of focus shots at full apeture and close up. However I couldn.t stand the sound of the shutter and the less quality of the stuff (IMHO). But for the price it's great stuff

Thanks. That's what I thought.

I don't think the Bessa's shutter is as loud as my FM2T's mirror slapping; and I don't think there's any noticeable vibration with the Bessa. It would have been nice if it had more dampening, though, and at least you can point it into the sun without frying the shutter like those expensive cloth shuttered thingies. 😱

In my opinion the shutters in the bessa's are ok But it was the kind of sound that was a bit disturbing. It is such a high pitch metal ringing sound.

It is obvious that Leica is better than Bessa. The question is whether it is $2,756.00 better. And there is no one correct answer to that one. I just could not justify for myself spendig that much money on a Leica.

I prefer the Voigtlander for the viewfinder and film loading.

I could have a Leica but I really do prefer the Voigtlander.

The shutter is a copal metal one, not a Leica silk one, and it's little louder. But unless you're taking photos of the pope getting inaugarated nobody ever notices the 'click' in real life.
