The widest frameline on the R3a is 50mm. What do you estimate is the equivalent focal length out to the edges of the viewfinder? ;)

I think the R3a does until 40mm at its widest.
My guess for the edges of the frame lines, would probably be around 34+/-mm

The widest frames are 40mm, but there is little relief around, so a 35mm coverage for the whole VF is your best bet, i.e. if you do not wear glasses, because in that case, even the 50mm frames are tight to see.

The best is to try out. I do NOT have any true rangefinder camera and will remember to look through the viewfinder of the Bessa R3A. To get the edges of the viewfinder you must literally "look around". I do believe that people with glasses may have problems to see the 40mm framelines. The 50mm is probably optimal - still very large, but easy to see.

I hope to get an R3A one day too ...

Hello,

I got the R3A and use it with a 40mm for which the widest frame lines are build.
Edges aren't obvious to get. And I don't wear glasses.
I agree that "full frame" viewer shoud be more or less 35mm.
In this case, I think that being accurate on the edges will cost time !
If that can help.
