I'm wondering what people think of the tele's on the Bessa R's? I've got a Jupiter-9 (and a J8 😀) on the way, and got a fairly good deal, we'll have to see if it pays off.

I've considered the VC 75/2.5, 90/4 Elmar, and of course the J9. Any problem with the short base on the rangefinder? Any of these lenses really stand out? I'm pretty sure the VC has the sharp contrast of a more modern lens. Which is what it is, perhaps the J9 or Elmar would make a better portrait lens?

I've never really been much for long lenses even but sometimes ya just wanna reach out and touch something.

I've used the J-9 with good results on my Bessa R. No problems focussing correctly.

There's a photo in my gallery called "3 forks" - that was shot with a Bessa R2 and 90mm tele-elmarit wide open at f/2.8 at 1 meter (the minimum focusing distance). I focused on the middle fork - no problem with focusing accuracy.

Good luck and enjoy!

Not had any problems focussing the VC 75/2.5, which is an excellent lens. No real problems with the 135 tele-elmar, although I tend not to use it close-up. 75mm is probably a bit short for portraits.

I should qualify what I said - the focussing is accurate but if you are taking a portrait any slight movement in you or the subject risks usharp shots with an SLR this is easier to pick up but with an RF you can miss it

I also have the CV75, and have no problems at all (unless I've gone and knocked the RF out of alignment, of course). I also have a 135mm lens which I can't use properly on the Bessa R. At distances closer than about 20 metres, it works fairly well; at greater distances, focus is all over the place.

I've been happy with my J-9(the second one I've had for LTM) and my Elmar 90/f4. I have a 135 and it is slower to focus but does OK if I do my part. Don't use it that much but I'm glad to have it in the stable.

Three forks is an excellent photo. I have the CV 75/2.5 and like it alot with the R. I like the fact that the camera has the proper frame lines and you don't have to guess or use an external finder. I have yet to be disappointed with the 75. I,m not sure I'd like any thing longer on a RF camera though.

I have to say seeing the other recent thread on the 75/2.5 its very tempting if the jupiter doesn't work out. Man the OOF area is down right dreamy looking from the test shots.

I have used three 135's with both the R and now R2 & T. I have two Jupiter 11 lenses, one silver and a newer black one, both work just fine and are excellent lenses. I also have a late Canon 135 f3.5, it works well also but is less convenient to use as the front rotates as you alter the aperture to meter, due to very strong click stops. Its also more prone to flare and takes hard to find 48mm filters. However I must say that the Bessa T would be a better camera for the longer lenses.
