Best 25mm on a budget

The Skopar beats the Canon in resolution and resistance to flare. The non-coupled ones are inexpensive, usually about $200 used, while the Canon 25mm in LTM will usually sell for $600-$800 on eBay. There is one in the classifieds for $190, and another recently sold in the classifieds for $175.

Not sure as I have never shot, let alone held the Canon.
I can say I LOVE THE CV 25, it is my favorite lens for my carry camera. Into the sun, in the pocket, around the neck, you can not top it. Part of me wants to get the coupled version, but then it does not have click stops which makes it perfect for focusing by feel alone.

I think the answer to most of these questions is the CV option. This is not to say that the classic lenses are not good, but most that are desirable have significant collectors value, and CV really does do a great job with their kit.

I have and love the Canon. Partly because of it's pancake size, but definetly for its performance. I like old Canon glass...

I tried the Canon but didn't like it that much. Filters and hoods are very problematical with it. I tried the CV but although you don't need the coupling, I found it odd especially on the M6 when the patch didn't move. I also like E6 at 100ASA so I have ended up with the ZM and haven't regretted it. If on a strict budget, the CV wins. If you want best value for money then I would go ZM.

I love, love, love the cv25... this is a fantastic lens for black and white ... the click stop focusing makes it the perfect lens for my Leica Standard and I am never even tempted to look at the rangefinder patch as it has no rangefinder

Save up a bit longer and get the newer CV 25/4P. It is rangefinder coupled and worth every penny.

Everyone who gets the ZI loves it, but not only does it cost more, it's bigger. On the positive side, its fast too.

I don't get the 25mm size. 28mm had built-in lines with many bodies, 25 usually requires a viewfinder. I look back at photos I took with 18mm and wonder if they were not 28mm. Going shorter than 28mm, might as well go to 15mm or 18mm or 21mm IMHO.
