Hi all,

What do people think is the best bet for 35mm 1600 Iso colour without too much contrast?

I just read a recent thread stating Provia 400 is pretty acceptable when pushed to 1600 iso.

I tend to favour Kodak, because I find Fuji film generally too contrasty. However I understand Portra 800 can become contrasty when pushed.

I'm going to be taking handheld photos indoors without flash and wanted people's opinions on options for either negative or transparency.

Many thanks,
Laurence

I've had good experiences with the Portra 800 shot at 1600 and developed at 800. It has enough latitude to make the adequate adjustments in pp

Provia 400x is the best I've tried for 1600 colour film ('best' as in not too much grain) . Careful exposure is very important when pushing slide film, of course. Contrast will probably less with 1 stop underexposed 800 iso negative film, as will be exposure tolerance.
