Best 35mm SLR?

the FM3a comes close (the one I use now) but the viewfinder on the FE was better.

In 35mm I've loved working with:
Pentax ME Super
Pentax K1000
Pentax Spotmatic
but loved the LX most of all of the Pentax line.

The Nikon F3
Nikon F4 this was my favorite 35mm Nikon
Nikon F5
I've even enjoyed my FM which I still have as a backup to my D3.

Canon EOS 1V
Canon EOS 1Nrs was my favorite EOS camera but I just don't like their lenses as much as other brands.

I've loved using the Fujica ST801 and the Contax RX.
I've never been quite perverse enough to love using a visoflex even though I have taken a few shots with them.

In medium format, I've loved using the Bronica S2a and ECTL. I've had fun with Hasselblads but never had the money to fall in love with one.

In digital, my favorite SLR is my current D3 but I have an affinity towards the D2Hs as well.

These days I want a backup D2Hs or D3, a Nikon F2AS and that is my "ultimate" SLR kit for now. I'm set for medium format with the Mamiya 6. Maybe these preferences will change one day but for now it's just about perfect.

If you asked me this question in 1998, I would have said the ultimate was a Nikon F5 along with a Hasselblad 501. Then again, I would have also said that digital was going nowhere.

I've used a bunch of mechanical SLRs over the years, from Zeiss Ikon, Nikon, Minolta, Canon, Leica, probably a few others too, but the one I keep coming back to is the Leicaflex SL. I eventually acquired a handful of them, because I used them so much, with a whole lot of fun factor, and dumped rangefinders (after 15 years of exclusive use), because they were not used anymore. There's a lot of good SLRs out there, but I rate the Leicaflex SL tops.

I love the F3/T use it all the time along with my FM2N. The F6 is an amazing camera and I regret selling mine and will most likely buy another one.

Just coming back to SLRs from RFs, and my current fav is my Nikon FM with Nikkor-H 2/50. Nearly perfect.

Best SLR ? Easy:
Nikon F6 for autofocus and light measurement, Leicaflex SL2 for the VF and shutter, Pentax MX for the size, Leica R for the lenses Alpa for the manufacturing.

What I like about my Canon FD camera's & even the T series, I have a T-70, is that the batteries for them are still commonly found most everywhere. Even the 6v battery that fits the A series Canon's. The Pentax camera's I have I've had to hunt for a battery to fit it.

The Canon T70 uses AA's, just like the Pentax A3000. The Canon AE-1 uses 4LR44 batteries, there not as easy to find as AA's. However, I find that most non-mercury batteries are easy to buy on-line.
